Wikis > Glossary > Micro- and Macrorhythms

Micro- and macrorhythms are expressions to describe different levels of rhythmic organization. Micro refers to rhythmic durations smaller than the beat level, where macro refers to rhythmic durations larger than the beat level. Macrorhythms are used more commonly and can apply to hemiola among other larger rhythmic structures.
